Quantum Computing by Model and Simulation: A Computational Approach

Quantum Computing by Model and Simulation: A Computational Approach offers a concise, practical entry point to quantum computation built around an interactive, "computation-first" philosophy: teaching the subject by modeling, simulating and calculating rather than losing readers in heavy formalism.

Working directly in Wolfram Notebooks, readers use guided examples (and the Wolfram Quantum Framework) to develop intuition for qubits, circuits and the way quantum states evolve under gates, with visual representations emphasized early to make abstract ideas feel concrete. The book progresses from a classical-computation warm-up into the core building blocks of quantum information: single- and multi-particle states (including Bloch-sphere intuition, bra-ket notation, amplitudes and density matrices), probability and measurement, tensor products and the divide between separable and entangled states.

Next readers will take a tour of quantum gates and a set of foundational algorithms, which include Deutsch–Jozsa, Bernstein–Vazirani (including noise effects), Grover search, quantum arithmetic and QFT, phase estimation and Shor's factorization, before finishing with an applied look at quantum key distribution via BB84.

At the end of each chapter, readers will find a collection of hands-on exercises designed to check and strengthen understanding before moving on to the next topic. The book concludes with a sample exam and accompanying solutions.

About the Author

Mohammad Bahrami holds a PhD in physical chemistry from Sharif University of Technology. His research has focused on quantum theory and its applications at leading international institutes, including the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics and the University of California, Riverside, before joining Wolfram Research. His expertise spans the foundations of quantum modeling and simulation and the development of computational tools for describing quantum systems in realistic environments. With extensive teaching experience across advanced topics for both academic and general audiences, he now leads Wolfram's quantum initiatives, including the development of the Wolfram Quantum Framework.
